Wound Too Tight is a healing balm for frayed nerves and lonely hearts, a raw and vulnerable meditation on loneliness, insomnia, and yearning, and on the power of love, touch, and connection to take away pain.
The original acoustic track, produced by Rami Jaffee of the Foo Fighters and Foo Fighters engineer Samon Rajabnik, features Melson on piano and vocals, Jaffee on organ, synths, and percussion, and Rajabnik on brushes and additional guitars. The track was recorded at Melson's home in Los Angeles, using Jaffee's collection of vintage microphones. Rajabnik mixed, with additional mixing by Jason Hiller. Rob Kleiner mastered both the original and remixed tracks.
The remix – produced, arranged, and mixed by multi-instrumentalist guitarist Danny Hechter-- is a soothing and ethereal trip through a hypnotic psychedelic dreamscape, in which Melson’s intimate, understated vocals, embedded in lush harmonies, swirl over a driving, trance-inducing groove.
Hechter, whose first instrument was drums, played guitar in arenas the world over on the most recent Jonas Brothers’ world tour. The Wound Too Tight remix, with its multiple layers of synths, guitars, bass, beats, and drums, is an amalgamation of his distinctly pop sensibility merged with Melson’s wistful and spare original track. The result is an exuberant, symphonic soundtrack to an ecstasy-infused makeout session.
Hechter and Melson have been close collaborators since Hechter music-directed Melson’s live band and co-produced several of the tracks on Melson’s Wild & Precious Life EP (2020). The Wound Too Tight remix releases August 19, 2022.
