Born of sleepless pandemic nights spent staring at a blinding screen, doom-scrolling and date-swiping into the wee hours, Wound Too Tight is a vulnerable meditation on loneliness, anxiety, insomnia, and yearning, and the power of love to take away pain. Lush and ethereal, the track’s psychedelic dreamscape is a healing balm for frayed nerves and broken hearts.
“For those who have to soothe themselves to sleep, nights can be hard. This is for all the lonely hearts shivering underneath the covers.” ~ Sara Melson
With Melson on piano and vocals, "Wound Too Tight" features Foo Fighters keyboardist Rami Jaffee on organ, synth, and percussion, with guitars and brushes by Foo Fighters engineer Samon Rajabnik, who also co-produced. Recorded at Melson's home in the historic Beachwood Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles, using Jaffee's collection of vintage microphones, the track was mixed by Rajabnik, with additional mixing by Jason Hiller, and mastered by Rob Kleiner.
lyrics
I been wound too tight
tossing turning in the night
reach across the bed
to try to quiet my head
and find a body to hold
and now the only light
is my screen up way too bright
swiping through my phone
I don’t wanna be alone
when I’m old
I’m done with being strong
working all day long
I’m so lonely
and so tired
my body’s like a flower
fading by the hour
worrying and wired
I just wanna sleep
close my eyes and drop down deep
in your arms, under the moon
let go of the day
give it up and drift away
You around me
like a spoon
I just wanna sleep
next to you
I just wanna sleep
next to you
let go of the day
give it up and drift away
breathing me and you
I just wanna sleep
next to you
I just wanna sleep
next to you
please just let me sleep
cuz I been wound too tight
